The TG-310 makes no attempt to hide its brutal nature. Available in silver, white, blue, red or orange, the Tough proudly shows the pin-reinforced and waterproof rubber buttons that decorate their chiseled, metallic body. It's not a bad look all. The device feels modern, accessible and practical.
There are some problems with the design, however. First, the rubber buttons are not that great. They are small and somewhat unresponsive. This can customize it cumbersome settings - or just zoom in or out - while you're on a mountain and so on. The trigger does not suffer from this problem, but some people find, no doubt, the TG-310 is fiddly to use.
Durability aside, the TG-310 is a rather unremarkable piece of equipment. Its CCD image sensor is designed to capture a respectable 14 megapixels worth of detail and a modest 3.6x optical zoom lens offers focal lengths equivalent of 28-102mm.
The TG-310 has one of the least pleasant LCD screens we've seen in a long time. At 2.7 inches it is not particularly small, but the resolution is too low, at 230,000 pixels. The colors are horribly flat, contrast are all over the place, and it makes everything look slightly rubbish, which is not very helpful if it is the only tool you'll be in line for your shots.
The TG-310's performance is also something of a disappointment. Even in bright sunlight, colors to be colorless to veer exaggerated. Detail is not bad and the area, the focus tends to stay sharp, but there are a lot of noise, especially in the shade and solid colors, and there is purpler fringing than we love. Indoors, the TG-310 quickly to other image artifacts in shadow areas to be added.
The camera 720p video is not brilliant. They are good for occasional YouTube uploads, but not much else.
